Akub is a Palestinian restaurant at 27 Uxbridge Street in Notting Hill, created by chef Fadi Kattan with entrepreneur Rasha Khouri. The restaurant celebrates the ingredients, stories and culinary traditions of Palestine while working closely with seasonal British produce. Its name refers to cardoon, a flowering thistle that grows in the region and carries strong cultural significance.
Hospitality is expressed through the tawla, an abundant table of dishes intended for sharing. Labaneh balls are rolled in sumac, zaatar, turmeric and Aleppo pepper, while red lentil moutabal combines pulses, tahini and cumin. Fresh breads, pickles, olives and green or red shatta allow diners to build each bite around acidity, spice and creamy texture.
Chef Kattan reinterprets traditional recipes while preserving the memories and fragrances that shaped them. Bukjet mousakhan encloses chicken, onion and sumac in a bread parcel, short rib fatteh layers slow cooked beef with garlic yoghurt, pomegranate and bread, and monkfish cured with arak connects British seafood with a distinct regional spirit. Vegetable dishes receive the same imaginative attention.
The drinks list extends the restaurant’s story through natural and classic wines from Palestine and Jordan, Taybeh beer and arak. Signature cocktails use ingredients such as pomegranate molasses, apricot leather, zaatar and fresh herbs, with thoughtful alcohol free options alongside. The combination of modern technique, inherited knowledge and generous service creates a vivid expression of contemporary Palestinian dining.
