Kettner’s is a historic French restaurant at 29 Romilly Street in Soho, founded by chef Auguste Kettner in 1867. The current restaurant occupies a restored Georgian townhouse with original architectural details, a Champagne Bar and thirty three individually designed bedrooms. Its long history and polished but relaxed atmosphere make it a natural setting for breakfast, lunch, dinner and celebrations.
The seasonal bistro menu draws directly on French classics associated with the restaurant’s heritage. Terrine de campagne provides a traditional beginning, poulet aux morilles combines chicken with the deep woodland flavour of morel mushrooms, and côte de boeuf offers a generous centrepiece for sharing. British seasonal produce supports the recognisably French techniques and sauces.
Breakfast and the all day menu allow the restaurant to change character from morning into the evening. Afternoon tea brings French pastry and the familiarity of the British tradition together in the historic rooms, while desserts continue the bistro approach. This range means Kettner’s can accommodate a short daytime visit as comfortably as a slower late dinner.
The Art Deco inspired Champagne Bar has a circular counter, antique furnishings and comfortable lounge seating. Champagne is naturally central, supported by cocktails, wine, spirits and alcohol free choices selected for the restaurant’s food and social atmosphere. Live piano and late opening preserve the sense of old Soho glamour without turning the restaurant into a formal museum piece.
