Yard & Coop Manchester is a fried chicken restaurant on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter. The bright, informal room is designed for relaxed meals, groups and drinks, with bookings and walk ins both accepted. Food is served daily from noon, and collection offers another way to use the kitchen.
Chicken comes from a single Shropshire farm and reaches the restaurant quickly before being coated in buttermilk and a secret crumb. Pressure frying keeps the meat moist beneath the crisp coating. Diners can choose thighs, breast, tenders, wings or a burger, then add sauces ranging from barbecue and ranch to hot honey and more assertive chilli.
The menu uses the whole bird across individual cuts, large plates and inventive sharing dishes. Seitan provides a vegan alternative to the fried chicken format, while mac and cheese, corn ribs, slaw and several styles of loaded fries add variety. A gluten free crumb can be requested for some dishes, but it is not suitable for allergies and specific needs should be raised with staff.
Craft beer and classic cocktails are natural companions to the salt, spice and richness of the food. Lunch and brunch selections offer different ways into the menu without abandoning its core style.
