London is home to one of the most diverse and accomplished Indian dining scenes outside India. Its restaurants explore the food of Punjab, Kerala, Goa, Mumbai, Bengal and India’s southwestern coast, offering far more variety than a conventional selection of curries and tandoori dishes might suggest.
The city’s finest Indian kitchens combine regional knowledge with excellent British produce and carefully balanced spices. Some present elaborate tasting menus, while others specialise in seafood, charcoal grilled meat, street food or the comforting dishes associated with India’s historic cafés and family homes.
Whether you want an ambitious special occasion restaurant, a lively room built for sharing or an affordable meal filled with familiar flavours, these Indian restaurants offer some of London’s most rewarding dining experiences.

Ambassadors Clubhouse
Ambassadors Clubhouse celebrates the food and generous hospitality of Punjab in an opulent setting just off Regent Street. The restaurant draws inspiration from the grand party mansions of northern India, combining richly decorated dining rooms with music, theatrical service and a menu intended for sharing.
The cooking moves between roadside dishes, family recipes and preparations influenced by the royal kitchens of Punjab. Butter chicken chops, beetroot chaat, kebabs and slow cooked lamb demonstrate the kitchen’s command of fire, spice and texture. Curries arrive with enough depth to stand alongside the grilled dishes, while breads and rice help turn the meal into a substantial feast. A basement bar and club add to the celebratory atmosphere, making this an especially strong choice for groups and special occasions.
Address: 25 Heddon Street, London W1B 4BH, United Kingdom

Trishna
Trishna specialises in the coastal cooking of southwestern India, with seafood playing a central role throughout the menu. Its understated Marylebone dining room creates a relaxed setting for food that is complex, carefully spiced and grounded in the culinary traditions of Kerala and the Malabar Coast.
Dorset brown crab, masala fried soft shell crab and hariyali bream cooked in the tandoor illustrate the restaurant’s ability to combine outstanding British seafood with Indian flavours. Coconut, curry leaves, tamarind and roasted spices appear throughout the menu without overwhelming the natural character of the ingredients. Meat and vegetarian dishes provide further variety, while the thoughtfully assembled wine list includes bottles chosen to complement spice, smoke and the richness of coastal curries.
Address: 15–17 Blandford Street, Marylebone, London W1U 3DG, United Kingdom

Dishoom King’s Cross
Dishoom King’s Cross recreates the romance of the Irani cafés that once flourished in Bombay. Set inside a vast former railway warehouse near Granary Square, the restaurant combines industrial architecture, vintage furniture and carefully imagined details to create one of the group’s most atmospheric London locations.
Breakfast brings bacon naan rolls, Parsi omelettes and bottomless house chai, while the all day menu offers black daal, chicken ruby, biryani, gunpowder potatoes and dishes cooked on the grill. The food is designed for sharing and remains approachable enough for families, groups and first time visitors to Indian cuisine. Despite the size of the dining room, the restaurant retains an energetic atmosphere and queues frequently form during the busiest evening periods.

BiBi Restaurant
BiBi is chef Chet Sharma’s contemporary interpretation of Indian cooking, shaped by memories of his grandmothers and the food of his family. The intimate Mayfair restaurant places guests close to the open kitchen, with counter seats offering a clear view of the detailed work behind each course.
The menus combine recognisably Indian flavours with carefully selected seasonal ingredients from Britain. Sharmaji’s Lahori chicken, grilled scallops, paneer and elaborate snacks demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of spice, smoke, acidity and texture. Luxury ingredients sometimes appear, but the strongest dishes use them to support rather than replace the character of Indian cooking. A concise lunch menu and a longer evening tasting experience provide two different ways to explore the kitchen’s ideas.

Hoppers Soho
Hoppers Soho explores the closely connected cuisines of Sri Lanka and southern India in a compact and lively dining room. The restaurant takes its name from the bowl shaped pancakes made with fermented rice and coconut batter, which provide an ideal way to scoop up curries, sambols and richly spiced sauces.
Egg hoppers, dosas, mutton rolls, bone marrow varuval and fragrant kari dishes form the heart of the experience. Coconut, curry leaves, chilli and sour fruit create food with striking contrasts, while rotis and aromatic rice make the larger dishes suitable for sharing. The room is small and energetic, so the restaurant works particularly well for an informal meal where the focus is on ordering several plates and experiencing a broad range of flavours.
Address: 49 Frith Street, Soho, London W1D 4SG, United Kingdom

Kricket Soho
Kricket Soho combines Indian flavours with the energy and informality of a contemporary London small plates restaurant. Counter seating surrounds the open kitchen, giving the narrow dining room a lively atmosphere while allowing guests to watch dishes being prepared and finished.
Bhel puri, samphire pakoras and Keralan fried chicken sit alongside grilled squash, butter prawns, fish curry and slow cooked meat. The kitchen confidently incorporates seasonal British ingredients without losing the spice, acidity and freshness that define the menu. Dishes arrive as they are ready and are best shared across the table. Creative cocktails and a concise selection of wine complete an experience that is polished but never excessively formal.

The Quilon Restaurant
Quilon has been introducing London diners to the coastal cuisine of southwestern India since 1999. Located near Buckingham Palace, the restaurant presents the flavours of Kerala and the Malabar Coast through modern technique, elegant service and a menu designed to be shared.
Seafood is a defining strength, with preparations involving lobster, crab and carefully cooked fish complemented by coconut, tamarind, curry leaves and aromatic spices. Meat and vegetarian dishes receive equal attention, while lemon rice and flaky Malabar paratha make excellent accompaniments. The tasting menu offers a broad introduction to the kitchen, but choosing several dishes from the wider menu allows diners to build a more personal journey through the region.

Veeraswamy
Veeraswamy is London’s oldest surviving Indian restaurant, having welcomed diners on Regent Street since 1926. Its richly decorated dining room draws inspiration from Indian palaces and royal residences, creating a memorable setting above one of the busiest streets in the West End.
The menu draws from several Indian regions rather than concentrating on a single tradition. Chutneywala chicken tikka, raj kachori, kebabs, seafood and carefully developed curries are presented with the refinement expected from a special occasion restaurant. Vegetarian dishes and breads demonstrate the same attention to detail. Veeraswamy’s longevity is an important part of its appeal, but the restaurant remains relevant because its kitchen continues to treat regional Indian cooking with care and ambition.

Chutney Mary
Chutney Mary is a long established name in London’s Indian dining scene. Its St James’s home combines a luxurious dining room with a relaxed bar, providing an elegant setting for a menu that moves through different regions of India while placing particular emphasis on northern cooking.
Tokri chaat, kebabs, tandoori dishes and slow cooked curries show the kitchen’s ability to balance traditional foundations with subtle contemporary touches. Sauces are carefully layered, grilled dishes retain their individual character and the vegetarian selection extends well beyond predictable side dishes. The restaurant is particularly well suited to celebrations, business meals and diners who want broad regional choice supported by polished, attentive service.
Address: 73 St James’s Street, London SW1A 1PH, United Kingdom

Brigadiers
Brigadiers brings Indian barbecue to the City of London in a restaurant inspired by the military messes and social clubs of India. The large Bloomberg Arcade venue includes lively dining spaces, private rooms, a substantial bar and screens showing major sporting events.
The menu is dominated by fire and smoke, with kebabs, lamb chops, tandoori dishes and richly glazed chicken wings among the main attractions. Chaat masala chips and kati rolls bring a playful edge, while curries, breads and rice provide enough substance for a full dinner. Strong cocktails, beer and generous sharing dishes make Brigadiers particularly effective for groups, although the quality of the grilled food gives it appeal beyond its social atmosphere.

Final Thoughts
The best Indian restaurants in London offer markedly different interpretations of the country’s food. Ambassadors Clubhouse celebrates Punjabi hospitality, while Trishna and Quilon focus on the seafood and spices of India’s southwestern coast. BiBi and Kricket combine Indian flavours with contemporary London cooking, and Hoppers introduces diners to both southern Indian and Sri Lankan traditions.
Dishoom provides an accessible introduction through the culture of Bombay’s historic cafés, while Veeraswamy and Chutney Mary demonstrate the enduring appeal of refined regional dining. Brigadiers completes the selection with smoke, spice and the energy of an Indian inspired social club. Together, these restaurants show why London remains one of the world’s most exciting cities for Indian food.
