Canary Wharf and the Docklands have become one of London’s most varied places to eat. The towers around Canada Square still excel at polished business lunches, but the area now stretches into Wood Wharf’s waterside pavilions, North Dock’s converted railway arches and the older streets of Limehouse and the Isle of Dogs. Within a short walk or DLR ride, diners can move from soup dumplings and modern Indian sharing plates to charcoal-grilled steak, handmade pasta, East Mediterranean brunch and a historic riverside pub.
The restaurants here deliberately mix destination dining rooms with flexible all-day places. Dishoom, Din Tai Fung and Brother Marcus handle busy groups without losing their identity; Hawksmoor, Blacklock, Kricket and ROKA reward a longer dinner; Caravan works from breakfast to evening; Emilia’s concentrates on fresh pasta; and The Gun connects the modern district to the Thames and Docklands history.
Compare current dishes and prices before booking. Menus, service periods and seasonal preparations can change, while several restaurants separate lunch, dinner and Sunday offerings. Tell the restaurant about allergies directly, especially where grills, shared fryers, sesame, nuts or shellfish are involved. At steak restaurants, large cuts are often priced by weight, so confirm the size and total before ordering. The Wharf is busiest around weekday lunch and early evening; reservations help for special occasions, while counter seats and off-peak visits can make spontaneous meals easier.

Dishoom Canary Wharf
Dishoom’s Wood Wharf branch combines the group’s Bombay-café character with a large, energetic dining room beside the water. It is useful throughout the day: breakfast can be a bacon naan roll or keema per eedu, lunch can move quickly through rolls and salads, and dinner is built for sharing. Booking is particularly sensible in the evening, although the broad service schedule gives flexible alternatives.
The House Black Daal is the table’s slow-cooked anchor, especially with naan or rice, while Chicken Ruby provides a gentler, tomato-rich contrast. Add okra fries or gunpowder potatoes for crispness and one grill dish, such as chicken tikka or lamb chops, rather than ordering several heavy curries together. The Canary Wharf menu’s Salli Boti brings tender lamb in a rich gravy under a layer of fine crisp potato, with roomali roti alongside. Breakfast diners should compare the savoury naan rolls with the fuller egg dishes. Chai and puddings can extend the meal, but portions accumulate quickly when every plate is shared.

Din Tai Fung Canary Wharf
Din Tai Fung occupies Crossrail Place with a bright, orderly dining room and an open view of the dumpling-making process. Its international scale is matched by a precise service format: baskets and small dishes arrive steadily, making the branch practical for a work lunch yet comfortable enough for a family dinner. Larger groups gain the most choice because each basket can be divided without turning the table into a tasting marathon.
Pork xiao long bao are the essential starting point, with thin wrappers holding meat and hot broth; lift one carefully into a spoon and allow it to cool before eating. Prawn-and-pork wontons in Sichuan sauce add chilli and sesame depth, while cucumber in spicy sauce or wood-ear mushrooms brings a cool, crisp break. Pork chop egg-fried rice is a dependable larger dish, and Sichuan noodles with wontons suit diners who want more sauce and heat. Honey-and-vinegar short ribs are richer and sweeter. Order in rounds so steamed dumplings are eaten promptly, and ask staff to identify shellfish, sesame and gluten across sauces and wrappers.

Brother Marcus Canary Wharf
Brother Marcus brings East Mediterranean flavours to Reuters Plaza in a room that works equally well for coffee, brunch and a relaxed evening meal. The covered outdoor area is useful when the weather cooperates, while the all-day menu makes it an easy meeting point for diners arriving by different Canary Wharf lines. Breakfast plates are generous and colourful; later, the kitchen shifts naturally towards dips, mezze, grilled vegetables and meat.
At brunch, the house approach is clearest in soft eggs, spiced meats, yoghurt, herbs and good bread, with sweet tsoureki brioche providing a contrasting route. Later in the day, begin with a selection from the Rip & Dips section and warm bread, then choose a vegetable plate and one substantial grill. The Marcus’ Choice menu is helpful for groups that want the kitchen to set the pace, although smaller tables can build a more focused meal from mezze. Acidic pickles, herbs and citrus keep richer dishes lively. Check the current menu for vegan combinations and flag nut or sesame allergies because tahini, dressings and garnishes appear throughout the cooking.

Hawksmoor Wood Wharf
Hawksmoor Wood Wharf sits in a pavilion that appears to float on the dock, giving this branch a sense of occasion before the food arrives. The restaurant upstairs is built around British beef, seafood and confident service; the bar below offers a looser way to experience the same waterside setting. It is a strong choice for celebrations or a long business dinner, but a focused lunch can be equally satisfying.
Charcoal scallops, smoked salmon, Devon crab on toast or potted beef with bacon make characterful starts. For steak, choose a cut for texture and flavour rather than size alone, then add beef-dripping chips and one green or sharper side. Large cuts are listed by weight and designed to share, so ask the server to confirm the available piece and total cost before it reaches the grill. Fish and shellfish provide a worthwhile alternative, and the Sunday roast gives the branch another distinct identity. Cocktails are taken seriously, but non-drinkers can still build a complete meal. Mention allergies early because sauces and classic accompaniments can hide dairy, gluten or shellfish.

Blacklock Canary Wharf
Blacklock is tucked into a former warehouse beneath the North Dock railway tracks, where the low-lit room and passing trains feel more like an old-city hideaway than a glass-tower restaurant. The menu concentrates on British meat cooked over charcoal, with quick lunch dishes, sharing chops and an all-day Sunday roast. Service is warm and direct, and the cooking is intentionally unfussy.
Pre-chop bites are small enough to sharpen the appetite, while pig’s head or mushrooms on toast make a fuller start. The All In brings a mixture of beef, pork and lamb chops over grilled flatbread and is the clearest choice for two or more people who want range. Solo diners can look to the Blacklock burger, steak sarnie or an individual steak. Big chops and butcher’s cuts are priced by weight; confirm the cut, size and final total before ordering. On Sunday, joints are roasted over coals and served with vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Finish with the white-chocolate cheesecake only if the table has paced itself.

Caravan Canary Wharf
Caravan’s Reuters Plaza dining room is one of the Wharf’s most adaptable choices. Coffee and breakfast start the day, grain bowls and a concise set menu suit a working lunch, and globally influenced sharing plates carry the restaurant into dinner. The spacious, modern room has enough energy for a group without making a solo meal uncomfortable, and the terrace adds an appealing warm-weather option.
Crisp chilli-salt tofu with spinach, ketjap manis and sesame is a punchy opener, while charred hispi cabbage with miso and herbs shows the kitchen’s vegetable strength. Broken lamb meatballs bring chermoula, aubergine and tahini labneh; larger plates may include hot-smoked salmon with seasoned rice or pork schnitzel with egg, pickles and mustard-dill cream. Coconut red curry offers a plant-based main with warmth rather than brute heat. At breakfast, baked eggs, grains and house-roasted coffee make a steadier start than a pastry alone. Tiramisu with espresso caramel closes the circle neatly. Menus turn seasonally, so treat these as signposts and check the live list.

The Gun, Docklands
The Gun provides a clear connection to the old Docklands. The Grade II-listed pub faces the Thames from Coldharbour, with views towards the O2, historic rooms and a riverside terrace that feels removed from the office district. Food is more ambitious than standard pub fare but remains recognisably British, and the bar allows a pint or small plate without a formal reservation.
Seasonal menus change, so look for the kitchen’s current fish, slow-cooked meat and vegetable dishes rather than relying on an old online photograph. A recent bar selection included house-made pizzas, while the wider offer moves through seafood, steaks, pies and carefully finished pub classics. The Sunday roast is the natural group order, with a vegetarian option usually available; at other services, a lighter starter leaves room for a substantial main and pudding. The riverside seats are highly weather-dependent, and a view is never guaranteed, so book the meal rather than a promise of one table. Confirm current refurbishment or service notices before a special journey.

Kricket Canary Wharf
Kricket’s Canary Wharf branch sits beneath the North Dock railway, with a long open kitchen and counter seats that let diners watch the tandoor and finishing station. The restaurant translates regional Indian memories through British produce and a modern small-plates format. Counter seating is particularly good for one or two diners, while larger tables should use the sharing structure and order in waves.
Keralan fried chicken with pickled mooli and curry-leaf mayonnaise is the familiar first order, but the branch’s menu rewards moving beyond it. Green-apple and mint pani puri gives a fresh opening; recheado butter prawns layer black pepper with aromatic Gondhoraj lime; and grilled lamb chops carry black stone flower and a nutty chutney. Seasonal curries might pair chicken with coconut and curry leaf or squash with makhani, paneer and hazelnuts. The lunch thali compresses several textures into one efficient meal. Add rice or bread after choosing the curries, not before, and ask for allergy guidance because nuts, dairy and gluten appear in sauces and garnishes.

ROKA Canary Wharf
ROKA overlooks Canada Square Park and organises the room around the robata grill. The style is contemporary Japanese rather than a conventional sushi bar: raw dishes, dumplings and salads support meat, fish and vegetables cooked over charcoal. The setting is sleek and busy, which makes it well suited to business entertaining, celebrations and groups that want a broad selection.
Begin with sashimi or a bright salad, then add dumplings before moving to the grill. Black cod is the recognisable richer choice, while grilled fish, chicken, lamb or seasonal vegetables can create a less sweet route. Rice hot pot with Japanese mushrooms, mountain vegetables and shaved truffle works as a substantial plant-based centre, and spinach with sesame dressing is a useful counterpoint to smoky dishes. Ask staff to pace the robata plates so the table is not overwhelmed at once. Set menus simplify larger groups, but à la carte ordering gives better control of balance. Soy, sesame, shellfish and shared preparation make detailed allergy advice essential.

Emilia's Crafted Pasta (Canary Wharf)
Emilia’s gives Wood Wharf a focused alternative to the area’s sprawling all-day menus. Pasta and sauces are made fresh each morning, and the room takes visual cues from trattorias in Emilia-Romagna, with warm surfaces and the pasta work visible to diners. The concise list pairs each shape with a sauce chosen for how it holds: broad pappardelle for slow-cooked meat, twisted casarecce for pesto or walnut sauce, and bucatini for carbonara.
The slow-cooked béchamel Bolognese with pappardelle is the hearty signature, while lamb ravioli in butter and sage gives a more delicate filled-pasta route. Casarecce with creamy walnut sauce and chestnut mushrooms is a deeply savoury vegetarian choice; tomato radiatori can be finished with buffalo mozzarella or burrata; and pistachio-basil pesto with cherry tomatoes provides a vegan alternative. Share burrata or heritage-tomato bruschetta only if appetite allows, because the pasta should remain central. The Canary Wharf branch offers pasta made from non-gluten ingredients in a separate area and boiler, but the restaurant is not a certified gluten-free environment, so discuss serious allergies directly.

Final Thoughts
Start with the occasion. Dishoom and Din Tai Fung are the most flexible for a mixed group; Brother Marcus and Caravan cover brunch through dinner; Emilia’s is the clearest answer when only fresh pasta will do. Hawksmoor and ROKA suit a polished celebration, while Blacklock offers a warmer, more informal path to chops and steak. Kricket rewards diners who want inventive sharing plates, and The Gun is worth the short journey south when riverside atmosphere and modern pub cooking matter equally.
Check each live menu, then match the reservation to the pace of the meal. Weekday lunch demand can be intense around the towers, and Sunday menus at the meat-led restaurants deserve separate planning.
