The Black Lion Pub & Boutique Rooms is a historic pub, dining room and guesthouse at 274 Kilburn High Road. Its Grade II listed interior provides an impressive setting for drinks, dinner or a Sunday meal, while eleven individually designed rooms extend the hospitality overnight. The kitchen gives traditional pub dining a distinctive identity through charcoal cooking and strong North Indian influence.
Small plates include onion bhaji, ragda patties, chilli calamari, soft shell crab, lamb seekh and tandoori chicken wings. Creamy black lentil dal arrives with naan, while paneer tikka, chargrilled aubergine, crispy cauliflower and butternut squash curry give vegetables a substantial role. Spiced duck confit wrapped in naan and pork ribs in Chettinad sauce add richer flavours.
The charcoal oven is used for whole sea bream rubbed with ginger, garlic, fennel and lime, as well as a whole chicken marinated in yoghurt, cardamom and rosemary. Both sharing dishes come with fragrant rice, making them natural centrepieces for the table. Lamb chops, salmon skewers, pilau rice and freshly baked naan provide further ways to assemble a generous meal.
Sunday lunch brings roast beef, roast chicken or a vegetable Wellington together with potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
