The Orchid Vegan Restaurant is a fully plant-based Asian fusion restaurant at 16 George Hudson Street in central York. Owners Will and Jean Zhuang established the venue to present vegan Chinese cooking in a casual dining room, with no animal products used on the premises.
The menu adapts the sauces, textures and formats of Chinese restaurant favourites using tofu, mushrooms and plant-based alternatives. Shredded vegan beef in OK sauce, salt and pepper vegan prawns and General Tso’s vegan chicken provide familiar reference points without relying on meat, fish, dairy or eggs.
Thai and Malaysian influences appear alongside the Chinese dishes, while bao filled with marinated tofu or vegan prawn tempura, mushroom ramen and stir-fried udon broaden the selection. Sharing several plates with rice or noodles lets diners experience the range of crisp, tender, sweet, savoury and spicy elements.
Vegan cheesecake and Jaffa cake-style desserts offer a considered finish, and the fully licensed restaurant also serves vegan wine. Delivery and collection are available as well as table bookings, but guests with allergies should still review the detailed allergen information before ordering.
