Afritopia is an African restaurant at 127 St Mary Street in Southampton. The venue was created to make home-style African food readily available to local students, families and professionals, with both restaurant service and ordering for collection or delivery.
Rice dishes form an important part of the menu, including jollof and fried rice served with beef, chicken, fish or assorted meat. Designer stew, curries and other West African preparations offer a choice of seasoning levels and accompaniments.
Pepper soups feature goat meat or an assortment of beef, cow foot and tripe cooked with traditional herbs and spices. Suya, spicy grilled goat, plantain, fried yam and grilled fish broaden the meal with snacks, starters and special-order dishes.
The cooking is suited to diners already familiar with West African flavours as well as those exploring them for the first time. Peanuts and other allergens can appear in suya seasoning and shared preparation, so guests should discuss current ingredients and cooking methods with staff.
