Jimmy's Express is a Chinese restaurant on South Bridge in central Edinburgh, a short walk from the Royal Mile and Waverley station. Opened in 2022, it combines dine-in service with collection and takeaway for lunch and dinner throughout the week.
Head chef Sam brings decades of cooking experience from Hong Kong, and Cantonese food is a major part of the restaurant's identity. Roast duck, char siu pork and poached chicken sit alongside stir fries, rice dishes and comforting bowls of noodles.
Meals can begin with prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls, gyoza, honey chicken wings or ribs in Beijing sauce. Soups range from chicken and sweetcorn to hot and sour or wonton, while larger noodle soups can be topped with chicken, pork chop or Cantonese barbecue pork.
Many dishes lend themselves to being placed in the centre of the table and shared, although individual rice and noodle meals suit solo diners just as well. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices help groups navigate the extensive menu, supported by table reservations and an informal dining room.
