Pomelo is a small modern Chinese restaurant at 27 Sciennes Road in Edinburgh, a short walk from the Meadows. Chef and owner Jun Au opened the business in 2021, building a relaxed neighbourhood dining room around bold flavours, creative cooking and food designed to bring people together.
Lunch is a walk-in service centred on house favourites such as hand ripped noodles with pork or roasted vegetables, a gochujang fried chicken sandwich on a pineapple bun, and garlic and chilli hash browns. The kitchen also offers a vegan Buddha bowl with rice, roasted vegetables and handmade pickles.
Friday and Saturday evenings take a different shape, with modern Chinese dishes served as a family style sharing meal. The selection changes frequently with the seasons, so sample dishes indicate the kitchen’s approach rather than a fixed promise of what will be available on the day.
Sunday brunch draws together ideas from the lunch and dinner services, while natural wine, cocktails and alcohol free drinks accompany the food. The room is close and cosy, and guests with allergies should contact the restaurant before visiting because the kitchen cannot accommodate some severe requirements.
