Stereo is an independent vegan cafe bar and grassroots venue at 22-28 Renfield Lane in central Glasgow. It has operated in a Charles Rennie Mackintosh building since 2007, combining daytime food with gigs, clubs, comedy and community events. The space is rooted in do it yourself culture and a clear safer spaces policy.
The kitchen serves a fully vegan menu made with fresh produce, moving between small plates, larger dishes and lunch options. Recipes change often enough to keep the food responsive rather than treating plant based cooking as a fixed collection of substitutes. Sharing several plates fits the social character of the room particularly well.
A separate gluten free menu helps guests navigate the choice, although kitchen cross contact should still be discussed directly with staff. Food service continues into the evening every day, giving the cafe a substantial role even when an event is scheduled. Groups larger than six can arrange a table directly with the venue.
Beer and other bar drinks sit alongside coffee and alcohol free options, with a rotating selection reinforcing Stereo’s independent outlook. As night develops, music and performance become more prominent and the atmosphere changes with them. Stereo offers Glasgow a rare combination of committed vegan cooking, community activity and late night cultural life.
