These beers are brewed within the monasteries of The Strict Order of Cistercians. There are currently six monasteries in Belgium producing authentic Belgian beers. One of them – St. Sixtus – only produces enough for local consumption, the other five Chimay, Westmalle, Orval, Rochefort & Achel are represented here. Outside Belgium in Holland La Trappe brewery produces authentic Belgian beer. The monks who brew the beer are strict vegetarians; these beers contain no finings or other animal products.

Described as ‘the Champagne of Beers’ due to its fizzy texture, Gueuze is obtained by blending an old and a young Lambic Ale. The taste varies enormously from the sweet commercial type to the very sour traditional Lambic brew.

Generally dry with lots of malty flavour.

These beers were traditionally brewed in the winter for drinking at Harvest time to preserve the beers an abundance of hops are used.

Pale, refreshing and hoppy beers.

IPA has a distinctly hoppy flavour. Pale ale less hoppy and more malty

A broad group of beers that are generally rich, chocolaty, caramel overtones, smooth and generally not over hopped.

The additional of coriander and curacao give these naturally cloudy beers a citrus flavour.

Bitter sweet and hoppy. From the eminently quaffable De Koninck via the delicious liquorice Kwak through to Belgium’s strongest beer Scaldis Bush.

Traditional Lambic Fruit Beers

A unique brewing process produces beers that don’t taste like beers!, they are described wine beers or the Burgundies of Belgium. The beers have no bitterness but are sour and mildly hopped.

Beers range from full flavoured Abbey beer styles through to dangerously easy to drink devil beers such as Duvel.
