Hawksmoor Edinburgh occupies the former National Bank of Scotland banking hall at 23 West Register Street, beside St Andrew Square. Original details within the Grade A listed space give the restaurant a sense of occasion, while its central location is convenient for Waverley station, Princes Street and George Street. The room’s scale also supports private dining and larger celebrations.
Steak is the foundation of the menu, using pasture reared British beef that is dry aged and cooked over live fire charcoal. Individual fillet, rib-eye, sirloin and rump steaks sit alongside larger chateaubriand, prime rib, porterhouse and T-bone cuts intended for sharing. Sauces, grilled bone marrow and sides such as beef dripping chips and creamed spinach let diners build a classic chophouse meal.
Seafood receives equal care rather than appearing as a token alternative. Oysters, charcoal roasted scallops, langoustine scampi, Scottish crab and native lobster lead into mains such as charcoal roasted hake or grilled monkfish. Vegetable dishes, including roasted celeriac and a cheese and mushroom Wellington, give the kitchen a broader range for mixed groups.
Sunday brings Hawksmoor’s roast to the centre of the experience, while set menus and group sharing selections suit other occasions. Cocktails, a substantial wine list and an indulgent pudding menu extend a meal comfortably in the grand banking hall. The Edinburgh restaurant combines the consistency of Hawksmoor’s steakhouse approach with seafood and architectural character rooted in its Scottish setting.
