The Rose & Crown York is a traditional pub, restaurant and bed and breakfast at 13 Lawrence Street, just outside Walmgate Bar. The building has served as a public house since at least the eighteenth century, and its classic rooms retain the feel of an established local. A garden, bar areas and main dining spaces accommodate everything from a quick pint to a full meal.
Homemade pies are a defining speciality, supported by a wider selection of familiar pub food. Starters, burgers, meat and fish dishes and Sunday choices give groups a practical range, while the emphasis remains on generous, recognisable cooking. Children have suitable options, and booking is recommended for guests who want to eat during busy periods.
Vegetarian choices appear alongside the pub classics, and staff can provide current information for dietary needs. Gluten, dairy, nuts and other allergens are handled in shared preparation areas, so anyone with an allergy should discuss it before ordering. Dogs are welcome in the bar areas and garden but not in the main dining rooms.
Local hand pulled cask ales, craft beer, world beer, whisky and wine give the drinks list unusual breadth for a neighbourhood pub. The garden offers an alternative setting in suitable weather, while the interior suits colder York days.
