Vietnam House Restaurant is a family run venue at 1–3 Grove Street in Edinburgh's West End. Established in 2011, it offers an intimate setting for exploring Vietnamese cooking, with a menu that moves from quick noodle dishes to meals designed for sharing.
Pho is a central attraction, pairing aromatic broth with rice noodles, herbs and a choice of toppings. Spring rolls, fish cakes and other smaller plates provide contrasting textures at the start of a meal and work well when several diners want to sample more than one dish.
The wider selection reflects the range of Vietnamese home and restaurant cooking. Duck stew with lotus seeds and ginkgo nuts is one of the more distinctive preparations, while rice and noodle dishes provide familiar foundations for meat, seafood and vegetable combinations.
Traditional Vietnamese desserts offer a suitable finish, and the restaurant permits guests to bring their own alcoholic drinks. Diners with allergies should discuss the current recipes with staff because fish sauce, shellfish, peanuts, soy and gluten can occur across Vietnamese menus and shared preparation areas.
