De Amicis Ristorante Italiano is a family run neighbourhood restaurant on Notting Hill Gate. Opened in 1995, it has built its character around warm service, an intimate dining room and the kind of traditional dishes that encourage guests to settle in rather than rush through a meal. Lunch and dinner service from Monday to Saturday make it suitable for a relaxed local visit or a special occasion.
Antipasti include mixed Italian cured meats, burrata, tomato bruschetta, fried calamari, grilled vegetables, sardines with garlic and white wine, and Parma ham with melon. Homemade minestrone and Roman egg soup offer comforting alternatives. Salads based on mozzarella, tuna, rocket, Parmesan and ripe tomatoes can begin the meal or accompany a larger main course.
Pasta choices range from oven baked lasagne and tagliatelle Bolognese to carbonara, arrabbiata, pesto and handmade ravioli. Seafood appears in spaghetti with crab and white wine as well as penne with king prawns and courgettes. The pizza selection covers margherita, anchovy and caper, spicy pepperoni, Parma ham with rocket, and smoked ham with truffle and mushrooms.
Main courses continue the classic approach with veal Milanese, veal piccata in lemon butter, saltimbocca, chicken Parmigiana, grilled sirloin, garlic prawns and whole sea bass with peppers, capers, olives and tomatoes. Zabaglione, tiramisu and other familiar Italian sweets provide a traditional finish. Coffee and an entirely Italian wine list complete the unhurried trattoria experience.
