Sudu is an independent Malaysian restaurant at 30 Salusbury Road in Queen’s Park. Created as an homage to the family behind Satay House, it celebrates Malaysia’s everyday food culture through memories of hawker stalls, kopitiam cafés, night markets and home cooking. Breakfast, lunch and dinner bring together traditional flavours, halal food and a broad selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Kopitiam breakfast is served well into the afternoon and includes nasi lemak bungkus, kaya toast, half boiled eggs, lontong and fried chicken with roti. Rice dishes continue with nasi goreng, chicken rice, nasi lemak with chicken berempah or beef rendang, and nasi campur served with curry, sambal and vegetables. Coconut, pandan, chilli, anchovies and peanuts create the familiar layers of fragrance, heat and texture.
Beef rendang is slowly braised with coconut, galangal, lemongrass and chilli, while chicken kari and fish kari offer aromatic alternatives. The grill adds percik chicken, sea bream, satay and spicy beef berlada. Noodle choices include char kway teow, bihun and laksa nyonya, and house made roti canai comes with chicken curry, fish curry or dhal.
Malaysian drinks include teh tarik, kopi, air bandung, calamansi and Milo, while sweets range from shaved ice and sago pudding to pandan tiramisu. A hidden bar named 19FiftySeven uses Malaysian ingredients and the country’s year of independence as inspiration for its cocktails. Sudu brings the food and drink together in a relaxed neighbourhood setting shaped by family heritage and nostalgia.
