Zia Lucia at 157 Holloway Road is the original Islington home of a London pizzeria founded by local friends Claudio and Gianluca in 2016. A welcoming dining room, open kitchen and oven built in Naples place the craft of pizza at the centre of the visit. The restaurant has since become known for carefully sourced Italian ingredients and dough that is fermented for 48 hours to develop flavour and lightness.
Diners can choose traditional, wholemeal, vegetable charcoal or dough made without gluten before selecting a pizza. Margherita Classica keeps the focus on tomato, mozzarella and basil, while Prosciutto & Funghi and Parmigiana offer familiar combinations. The Arianna Sbagliata layers mozzarella, gorgonzola, sausage, truffle oil and honey, and other signatures add spicy salami, burrata, Parma ham, nduja or hot honey.
The Islington restaurant also shares a menu with Berto Pasta, bringing several fresh pasta shapes and sauces into the same dining room. Pasta can be paired with recipes such as alla Norma, amatriciana, mushroom, pesto with confit tomatoes, cacio e pepe, carbonara or slow cooked beef ragù. Nocellara olives, bruschetta, focaccia, salads, cured meat, cheese and burrata provide smaller plates for the table.
Homemade tiramisù, chocolate biscuit cake, Amalfi lemon pie, affogato and ice cream complete the Italian progression. Beer, wine and soft drinks support anything from a quick pizza to a longer shared meal. With vegan choices and different dough styles available, Zia Lucia combines a highly personal neighbourhood origin with a menu designed for many ways of enjoying pizza and pasta.
