The Salad Kitchen is an independent salad bar at 126 Whitecross Street near Barbican and Old Street. Founded in 2014, it specialises in fast, satisfying lunches assembled from fresh vegetables, grains, pulses and protein. Weekday opening hours reflect its focus on the local working community, with collection and office catering available alongside counter service.
The signature Crunchbox combines six salads prepared for the day, typically moving through grains, pulses, roasted vegetables, pickles, slaw and leaves. Guests can keep this colourful base simple or add pulled chicken, halloumi, goat’s cheese, tempeh, avocado, kimchi or other toppings. A leaf box offers a lighter alternative, while a poké bowl begins with seasoned sushi rice, edamame, wakame, pickles and slaw.
Dressings such as smoked chilli mayonnaise, lemon pesto, honey mustard, ponzu, teriyaki mayonnaise and balsamic vinaigrette let each guest shape the final flavour. Toasted seeds, sourdough croutons, crispy shallots, chilli flakes and furikake add texture. Set combinations include generous protein focused bowls, lower calorie recipes, vegetarian choices and options prepared without gluten.
House hummus, baked pitta chips, granola bars and vegan miso brownies extend the menu beyond the main bowls. Fresh juice, kombucha, sparkling water and soft drinks complete a quick lunch. The Salad Kitchen turns the familiar salad bar into a more substantial and flexible meal, balancing nourishing ingredients with bold sauces and crisp toppings.
