Ukrainian Restaurant Albina is a family run restaurant at 239 Barking Road in Plaistow. The business began with a Ukrainian shop in 2005 and added the restaurant in 2007, creating a warm place where food, hospitality and cultural tradition are shared around the table.
Soups such as borshch, solyanka and fish soup introduce the menu’s comforting character. Dumplings, cabbage rolls and chicken Kyiv sit alongside fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, with warm garlic and dill pampushky providing a particularly traditional accompaniment.
Charcoal cooking gives the shashlik style chicken and pork skewers a smoke kissed flavour, served with rustic potatoes, salad and house sauce. Buckwheat, grilled vegetables and pan fried potatoes with mushrooms allow diners to build a complete plate around the main dish.
Homemade desserts include honey cake, cherry dumplings, curd fritters and crepes with poppy seeds or cottage cheese. Albina also hosts weddings, birthdays and other gatherings, making it both a neighbourhood restaurant and a longstanding meeting place for London’s Ukrainian community.
