The Old Joint Stock is a pub and theatre at 4 Temple Row West in central Birmingham. Built in 1862 and later used by the Birmingham Joint Stock Bank, the Grade II listed building retains a magnificent domed interior, original details and a central island bar. The result is a dining room with far more architectural drama than a typical city pub.
Freshly prepared British pub classics shape the menu, with handcrafted pies treated as a speciality. Fish and chips made with haddock, deep filled sandwiches, generous sharing platters and regularly changing dishes cover both lighter visits and complete meals. Daily ingredient deliveries and seasonal specials allow the kitchen to keep familiar food responsive to the time of year.
Vegetarian and plant based dishes receive dedicated treatment rather than being limited to side orders, and puddings provide a traditional finish. Gluten, dairy and other allergens are handled in shared areas, so guests should review the latest information and speak with the team before ordering. The pub can also cater for private gatherings in its function rooms.
Cask ale, led by Fuller’s beers, sits alongside craft beer, wine, spirits and alcohol free choices. Upstairs, an intimate studio theatre presents new writing, musicals, comedy, cabaret and visiting productions throughout the year. The Old Joint Stock is particularly rewarding when a meal and performance are combined, but its food and remarkable former bank setting justify a visit on their own.
