Mowgli Street Food Water Street occupies an ornate former banking hall near Liverpool Town Hall and the waterfront. High ceilings, arched windows, indoor trees, swing seats and jars of amber light give the 2016 restaurant a distinctive atmosphere. The grand surroundings contrast appealingly with an informal menu built for sharing and the lively pace of Indian street food.
Yoghurt chat bombs capture the kitchen’s approach in one bite, filling crisp puffed breads with chickpeas, spiced yoghurt, tamarind and coriander. Bhel puri, turmeric and fenugreek potatoes, cauliflower and roti wraps continue that play between crunch, spice, sweetness and sharpness. Many of these smaller dishes are designed to be combined rather than eaten as separate formal courses.
The house kitchen moves into curries inspired by Indian family cooking. Butter chicken, Goan fish curry, Bengali spiced prawn curry and slow cooked lamb offer different levels of richness and heat, while biryani and plant based keema broaden the choice.
