Ranjit’s Kitchen is a family run food kitchen at 607 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow’s Southside. It is named for Ranjit Kaur, who grew up in Jandiala in the Panjab and learned to cook alongside her family before moving to Glasgow. Her children helped turn those memories and recipes into a restaurant focused on the food of a Panjabi home.

Daal and sabji change daily according to what is fresh and available, each served with roti for a simple complete meal. The Panjabi thali combines the day’s lentils and vegetables with homemade yoghurt, salad, roti, pickle and chutney. The short changing menu reflects household cooking rather than a large catalogue of standardised restaurant curries.

Special pakora mixes cauliflower, spinach, onion and potato in gram flour batter, while handmade samosas and aloo tikki offer further savoury snacks. Roti, makki di roti and stuffed paranthas accompany the curries, and paneer appears in several dishes. Vegan and gluten free adaptations are marked where possible, but guests with allergies should confirm the day’s preparation with staff.

Fresh curries are made each day and can sell out, so earlier visits offer the widest choice. Chai, coffee and lassi provide traditional drinks, while Panjabi sweets such as barfi, gulab jamun and jalebi can finish the meal. Ranjit’s Kitchen stands out for its direct connection to family history, seasonal vegetables and a deliberately personal style of cooking.
