Rocca di Papa South Kensington is an independent Italian restaurant at 73 Old Brompton Road. Open since 2008 and owned by family and friends, it takes inspiration from the village of Rocca di Papa near Rome and brings the relaxed welcome of a neighbourhood trattoria to South Kensington.
Pizza dough, bread and sauces are made fresh in the restaurant. Marinara and Margherita keep the ingredients simple, while cured ham, mushrooms, artichokes, vegetables, sardines, spicy salami and cheese create more elaborate combinations, with vegan cheese and a gluten free base also available.
Fresh pasta ranges from beef ragù and carbonara to pesto, truffle cacio e pepe, seafood linguine and filled ravioli. Lasagne, mushroom risotto, grilled sea bass, fish stew, veal Milanese and steak extend the menu beyond pizza and pasta while retaining a clear Italian character.
Tiramisu, panna cotta, cheesecake, gelato and affogato provide familiar ways to finish, supported by Italian wine, spritzes and alcohol free choices. The restaurant’s position near South Kensington station and the major museums makes it useful for family lunches, relaxed dinners and a comforting meal after a day of sightseeing.
