Sam’s Chop House is a historic Manchester restaurant and pub on Back Pool Fold by Chapel Walks. Established in 1868 by Samuel Studd, it has served British food and drink in the city centre for more than 150 years and remains an independent family business.

The kitchen focuses on generous British classics prepared with fresh local ingredients. Corned beef hash and steak and kidney pudding are closely associated with the restaurant, while a seasonal menu introduces other meat, fish and vegetable dishes through the year.

The chop-house tradition favours robust cooking and familiar flavours, making the venue suited to a substantial lunch or unhurried dinner. Sunday roast adds a distinct weekend focus. A life-sized bronze of painter L. S. Lowry at the bar recalls one of the venue’s best-known former regulars.

Local ales, cask beer, wine and spirits accompany the food and reinforce the pub side of the experience. The tucked-away historic interior works for both individual diners and groups. Guests with allergies or dietary requirements should discuss the current menu with staff before ordering.
