The Walnut Menu

The Walnut is an intimate 22 seat restaurant at 9 Croall Place, just off Leith Walk in Edinburgh. Its small scale and concise set menu create a focused dining experience, with the kitchen changing dishes to reflect seasonal produce and the ingredients available from local suppliers.

Starters balance familiar Scottish ingredients with wider influences. Ham hock terrine can appear alongside combinations such as Roquefort, chicory and poached pear, while prawn wontons with Thai red curry show the kitchen’s willingness to move beyond one fixed culinary style.

Main courses are carefully composed rather than oversized, with meat, fish and vegetarian options represented. Braised Scottish beef cheek in pastry, sea bass with coconut curry velouté and a mature cheddar and potato dauphinoise illustrate the range of technique within the compact menu.

Desserts continue the playful presentation, including the restaurant’s own interpretation of a Walnut Whip as well as changing fruit tarts and an affogato. A fully licensed drinks list covers wine by the glass, cocktails and digestifs, allowing the meal to unfold comfortably across two or three courses.
