Mara's Picklery is a small independent food venue on Strathearn Road in Edinburgh, created by Eilish and Pragnesh after careers in kitchens and front of house hospitality. The concept puts pickling, fermenting, curing and other traditional preservation methods at the centre of lunch.
The menu changes regularly with the seasons, but pickles remain a defining feature. A pickle plate with sourdough and house pickle butter can begin a meal, while cheeses, cured meat, shrubs and alcohol free drinks extend the same preservation led approach.
Sample plates have paired falafel and chilli jam with toasted sourdough, burrata with roasted peaches and plum, and beetroot with labneh, honey, mustard and walnut. Sweet potato with miso, coconut and lime shows how the kitchen layers fermented and fresh flavours.
More substantial choices can include pork aachari with seasonal chutney and flatbread, while aubergine, tomato, pepper and pomegranate provide a vegetable focused option. Short daytime opening hours and a concise changing menu give Mara's Picklery the character of a personal neighbourhood lunch room.
