Roger’s Kitchen is a Caribbean restaurant at 71 Camden Road in Camden Town, led by Jamaican born Chef Roger Shakes. After rising from his first London restaurant job to become head chef at the celebrated Mango Room, he opened his own dining room to present the food of his heritage with warmth, skill and contemporary flair.
Saltfish cod fritters with apple chutney introduce the menu through crisp texture, gentle spice and a bright fruit accompaniment. Seasoned chicken wings and other starters continue the balance between recognisable Caribbean flavours and polished presentation, making the opening dishes easy to share before the main courses.
Chargrilled jerk chicken can be paired with coconut, curry coconut or spicy jerk sauce, while curry goat, pork ribs and seafood demonstrate the kitchen’s broader range. Rice and peas, plantain, cassava and other traditional accompaniments complete the plates, with a vibrant vegan curry providing a substantial plant based choice.
Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and Caribbean fruit cake provide comforting ways to finish. Cocktails, wine and other drinks complement the spice and richness of the food, while the easygoing but elegant surroundings suit both relaxed meals and occasions that call for something more celebratory.
