Asmara Bella Eritrean & Ethiopian Restaurant is at 37 Port Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Its cooking and warm hospitality draw on family traditions from East Africa, with the shared table treated as an important part of the experience.
Fresh injera accompanies the dishes and serves as both bread and the base for a communal platter. Slow-cooked stews, tibs and spiced meats bring together berbere, herbs and carefully developed savoury flavours, with rice available as an alternative accompaniment.
Plant-based cooking receives equal attention through lentils, split peas, spinach and other vegetable dishes. The vegan beyaynetu gathers several of these preparations on one platter, while the Mosob combinations mix meat and vegetable recipes for two people to share.
A traditional coffee ceremony extends the meal through roasting, brewing in a clay jebena and serving several rounds. Everything is made from scratch, but guests with allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements should confirm the latest ingredients and preparation arrangements with staff before ordering.
