Candella Tea Room is an independent family run tea room on Kensington Church Street, founded in 2012 to preserve the charm and ceremony of traditional tea. Vintage china, antique furnishings, hand painted details and a baby grand piano give the small room the feeling of a welcoming home. Its intimate scale suits a quiet catch up, a special occasion or an unhurried afternoon away from the bustle of Kensington High Street.
Traditional afternoon tea begins with a pot selected from the loose leaf tea collection and an assortment of finger sandwiches. Fillings can include egg with avocado and chive yoghurt, ham and cheese inspired by a croque monsieur, tuna with lemon mayonnaise, smoked salmon with honeyed soft cheese, or cucumber with feta and mint. The range combines familiar British tea service with thoughtful contemporary touches.
Freshly baked plain or raisin scones are served with Cornish clotted cream and a choice of jam. Handmade patisserie completes the tiered service, with seasonal pieces such as chocolate mousse, fruit delice, opera gateau, macarons, Victoria sponge, red velvet cake or lemon drizzle. Cream tea and individual cake choices offer a lighter way to enjoy the same baking without ordering the full afternoon service.
The tea list spans black, green, white, rooibos, fruit and herbal blends, from classic breakfast and Earl Grey styles to more unusual floral and spiced infusions. Italian coffee and homemade chilled drinks provide alternatives, while brunch adds eggs, toast, pastries and croissants earlier in the day. Fresh sandwiches and seasonal salads extend the menu into lunch, making Candella as suitable for a light meal as for a formal tea.
