Mulan Noodle is a northern Chinese noodle house on Acre Lane, between Brixton and Clapham. Opened in 2025, the restaurant takes inspiration from the street food and night markets of Xi’an, with recipes built around freshly worked dough, layered seasonings and comforting bowls. An open kitchen lets diners see noodles being stretched and slapped into wide ribbons before they are cooked to order.
Hand pulled noodles are the centre of the menu. Biangbiang noodles and thick la tiao zi arrive with chilli oil, garlic and vinegar, while dry mixed choices can be topped with cumin beef, slow braised ribs, spicy chicken with potato, tomato and egg, or a vegetable combination. Garlic, sesame, soy and aromatic spices bring depth to dishes that range from gently savoury to boldly hot.
Soup noodles offer another way to explore the kitchen, with broths carrying braised brisket, beef ribs, sliced beef, tomato and egg, or tofu with vegetables. Handmade wontons can be served in chilli oil or a light broth, and the dumpling selection includes meat and vegetable fillings. Potstickers add a crisp base, while Chinese flatbread burgers filled with braised or cumin seasoned beef make a substantial street food option.
Starters such as spicy sliced beef shank, Xinjiang pepper chicken, marinated cucumber and black fungus salad balance the richer noodle dishes. Rice plates, freshly prepared sweet and sour chicken, fried snacks and vegetarian choices make the selection useful for mixed groups. Bubble tea, soft drinks and cocktails provide a varied finish to a casual meal centred on northern Chinese comfort food.
