Kaosarn is a family run Thai restaurant at 110 Saint John’s Hill near Clapham Junction. The restaurant began in 2011 and built its following around handmade food, fresh ingredients, lively flavours and friendly service. Its relaxed dining room and bring your own alcohol policy create an informal setting for sharing a broad selection of regional Thai dishes.
Starters include vegetable spring rolls, crisp prawns, squid, fish cakes, chicken wings, satay and Bangkok style pork skewers. Tom yum soup balances prawns, lemongrass, mushrooms and chilli, while tom kha gai softens galangal and herbs with coconut milk. Salads such as larb, glass noodle salad and som tam combine lime, chilli, roasted rice, peanuts and fresh herbs.
Curries cover panang, massaman, green curry and pineapple red curry, with combinations of chicken, beef, lamb, prawns, duck, tofu or vegetables. Rice plates include chilli basil stir fry topped with a fried egg and Kaosarn Road style fried rice. Pad Thai, other noodle dishes, garlic and pepper stir fries and cashew chicken add familiar alternatives to the curries.
Seafood choices include cod with chilli and garlic, whole sea bass with red curry sauce, salmon and prawns. Grilled chicken with sticky rice and papaya salad creates a complete plate built around smoke, heat and freshness. Halal meat, vegan dishes and gluten free choices help mixed groups order comfortably, while jasmine rice and coconut rice complete a shared meal.
