The Place to Eat at John Lewis Oxford Street has entered a new chapter as Platter John Lewis, following a major refurbishment of the fifth floor restaurant. The new name and design continue the department store’s own hospitality tradition in the same location rather than introducing an unrelated outside tenant. With seating for three hundred guests, the restaurant is one of the largest dining spaces on Oxford Street. It offers shoppers, local workers and visitors a comfortable place to pause, meet and eat without leaving the flagship store.
An open kitchen gives the restaurant a visible sense of activity and supports a broad all day offering. Hand stretched pizzas, hot breakfast dishes and food prepared at an onsite deli sit alongside bakery favourites and detailed patisserie. The variety allows guests to choose a quick snack, a complete meal or something sweet, making the venue practical for families and groups with different preferences. Food is presented in a casual format, but the focus on preparation within the restaurant gives the experience more identity than a basic department store cafe.
Coffee is a particular feature, with beans roasted in house under the guidance of a dedicated master roaster. A dessert parlour offers sundaes and waffles, while the Champagne and cocktail bar gives adults a more leisurely way to enjoy the space. Fifty outdoor seats on the fifth floor terrace provide views over Oxford Street and add an open air option above the activity below. These distinct areas remain part of one unified restaurant, allowing guests to move between coffee, food, dessert and drinks within the same John Lewis venue.
The Oxford Street store stands between Oxford Circus and Bond Street stations, making the restaurant easy to reach from across central London. Its position inside a seven floor department store means a visit can be combined with shopping, beauty appointments or other services, but the scale of the dining room also allows it to work as a destination in its own right. The refreshed restaurant brings together convenience, variety and a stronger sense of food preparation. It preserves the welcoming purpose of The Place to Eat while presenting that experience under the current Platter John Lewis name.
