Heaneys is a restaurant and bar at 6–10 Romilly Crescent in Pontcanna. Tommy Heaney and his partner Nikki opened it in 2018 after a supporter backed crowdfunding campaign. The two floor dining room is arranged around the bar, with dim lighting, music and an energetic atmosphere that keeps the experience relaxed rather than formal.
The cooking is seasonal, fresh and intentionally direct. Ingredients come from close relationships with suppliers, while herbs from the chef’s garden and the fish available that day help shape frequent menu changes. Diners can choose a quick lunch, sociable à la carte plates or a longer tasting menu depending on the service.
Tasting menus allow the table to experience a sequence of distinct dishes, and fish often has a strong presence. Sunday lunch provides another way into the kitchen’s style. Dietary needs require at least 48 hours’ notice and cannot always be accommodated; the restaurant currently states that it no longer caters for a vegan dietary requirement.
Seasonal cocktails, spirits and wines from around the world accompany the food, including biodynamic and organic selections. A covered, heated terrace at the front is available for drinks, snacks or dishes from the seasonal menus and welcomes dogs. With no formal dress code, Heaneys suits celebrations as well as an ambitious but easygoing meal.
