Chakra Little Venice is an Indian restaurant at 14 Formosa Street, a short walk from the canals. Its menu combines regional classics, street food and tandoori cooking in an elegant neighbourhood dining room. The selection gives equal attention to meat, seafood and vegetables, making it suitable for an intimate dinner or a larger shared meal.
Street food choices include gol gappa, vada pav, samosa chaat, onion bhaji and spiced chickpeas with puffed rice. From the tandoor come paneer tikka, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab, tiger prawns and ginger scented lamb chops. Vegetarian and mixed grill platters make it easy for a table to compare several marinades and textures at once.
Main dishes range from Old Delhi butter chicken and Punjabi chicken curry to Kashmiri lamb rogan josh, lamb shank nihari and Goan prawn curry. Dal makhani, yellow lentils, chickpeas, paneer makhani, smoked aubergine and soya chaap masala provide a substantial vegetarian selection. Steamed rice, saffron pulao and vegetable, chicken or lamb biryani cover the grain dishes.
Naan, roti and layered paratha are available plain or filled with garlic, cheese, chilli, dried fruit and nuts. Indo Chinese dishes such as chilli paneer and fried rice add another direction to the menu. Gulab jamun, moong dal halwa, kulfi, saffron cheesecake and chocolate mousse finish the meal with a choice between traditional sweets and more contemporary desserts.
