Speedboat Bar is a lively Thai restaurant and bar at 30 Rupert Street in Soho. Inspired by the late night canteens and racing culture of Bangkok’s Chinatown, it pairs a colourful, energetic dining room with food designed for sharing and a bar that keeps the atmosphere going well into the evening.
The kitchen works with fiery woks and a large bullet oven, producing dishes with smoke, spice, acidity and deep savoury flavour. Sweetcorn fritters, crispy chicken skins, prawn ceviche and punchy salads make useful opening plates before the table moves on to noodles, stir fries and curries.
Representative dishes include minced beef with holy basil, naem fried rice, crispy egg noodles with pork and seafood, beef tongue and tendon curry, and whole sea bream with makrut lime. Rice and a fried egg can be added alongside, while pineapple pie with taro ice cream and mango pudding provide a cooling finish.
The drinks list is as playful as the food, drawing on cocktails, beer and whisky based serves that suit the restaurant’s late night character.
