The Olde Wine Shades is a historic wine bar at 6 Martin Lane, close to Cannon Street and Bank. Dating from the seventeenth century and among the few buildings in the area to survive the Great Fire, it combines genuine City history with a welcoming modern bar.
Seasonal small plates, sandwiches and desserts provide a flexible food selection for lunch or an after work visit. Ingredients are sourced locally where practical, and the menu is designed to support grazing as easily as a more complete meal.
The ground floor retains the building’s character, while the cellar, private spaces and former smugglers tunnel create distinctive settings for larger gatherings. That sense of place makes the venue more than a conventional contemporary wine bar.
Wine is selected by Davy’s Wine Merchants, including labels shipped exclusively for the group, with craft beer and other drinks also available. The Olde Wine Shades is especially suited to diners who enjoy exploring wine alongside unfussy, seasonally led plates in atmospheric surroundings.
