Mangia Bene is a traditional Italian restaurant at 18 Chapel Market in Islington. White walls, exposed brick, an open kitchen and outdoor seating give it an easy Mediterranean character for lunch, dinner or a relaxed meal after visiting the market.
Pasta ranges from carbonara and Bolognese to spaghetti with clams, seafood linguine and the house fusilli with Italian sausage, broccoli, garlic and sundried tomatoes. Handmade fettuccine, baked gnocchi, filled ravioli and risotto add further choice beyond the familiar classics.
The pizza selection includes Margherita, Diavola, Quattro Formaggi, seafood Marinara and a folded calzone, with standard and long sharing sizes available across much of the range. Vegetarian pasta, pizza and risotto choices are clearly marked, while a children’s menu offers smaller pasta and pizza portions.
An Italian wine list, aperitifs, liqueurs and coffee complete the meal in keeping with the restaurant’s traditional approach. Private dining and advance reservations are available, but the informal atmosphere also makes Mangia Bene suitable for a straightforward neighbourhood lunch.
