Yatri West Kensington is an Indian restaurant at 297 North End Road whose name means traveller. The menu reflects that idea by moving across India’s varied regions, from street food and tandoor cooking to creamy northern curries, coastal coconut sauces and Gujarati vegetable traditions, all served in a relaxed neighbourhood setting.
Small plates include bhel puri, samosa chaat, vegetable or lamb samosas and crisp onion bhaji. Paneer with black pepper, family recipe chicken tikka, minced lamb kebab, coriander and ginger lamb chops, fish tikka and tandoori prawns demonstrate the range of the clay oven and provide several dishes suited to sharing.
Curries range from chicken tikka makhani and spicy Bombay chicken to slowly cooked lamb with tomato, garlic and garam masala. Fish or prawns can be served in a coconut based Kerala sauce, while roasted aubergine, paneer butter masala, tofu tawa masala and Gujarati undhiyu give vegetarian diners a substantial regional choice.
Black dal, yellow lentils and lentils with spinach bring depth to the side selection. Chicken, lamb or vegetable biryani is served with raita, and freshly baked plain, garlic, chilli, cheese and Peshwari naan can be paired with steamed or cumin scented rice for a complete meal shaped around the chosen curry.
