Alby’s is a neighbourhood sandwich restaurant at 8 Portland Place in Leith, Edinburgh. Opened by Matt and Tash in 2019, it has developed a strong identity around generously filled hot sandwiches, an informal room and a menu that changes regularly.
Focaccia is baked in house each day and becomes the base for the restaurant’s large sandwiches. The rotating combinations can move from fried chicken with Caesar flavours to a kimchi toastie with mozzarella and Scottish cheddar, alongside vegetarian or vegan fillings.
Small plates and sides give diners more to share, with fries, seasonal salads, grilled vegetables and fried seafood appearing beside the sandwiches. Because the selection changes from month to month, repeat visits can bring different ingredients and influences rather than a fixed set of fillings.
The Leith branch accepts reservations and serves through lunch into the evening later in the week, while takeaway remains available. Bread, dairy and other allergens feature prominently, so guests with allergies or dietary needs should check the current menu and speak with staff before ordering.
