Satyrio Restaurant & Wine Merchants combines a compact Italian restaurant with an extensive specialist wine collection on Aldgate High Street. Exposed brick, shelves of bottles and attentive service create a relaxed retreat from the City, while a secluded garden opens for outdoor dining during the warmer months. Sommeliers help guests choose from wines by the glass and bottle to suit the seasonal kitchen.
Appetisers may include oven roasted calamari with herb crumb and lime, aubergine carpaccio with Parmesan and balsamic vinegar, or burrata served with mortadella and rocket. Beetroot tartare, beef tataki and an artisan selection of cured meats and cheeses offer further contrasts. Bruschetta, fried courgettes, olives and homemade bread make useful smaller additions for an aperitivo or shared start.
Pasta carries much of the menu’s Italian identity. Linguine combines pistachio pesto with stracciatella and lemon zest, gnocchi is prepared alla Sorrentina with tomato, basil and mozzarella, and slow braised beef with sweet onions enriches ziti alla Genovese. Seafood appears in squid ink tagliolini with prawns and in fregola paired with red mullet, raspberries, caviar and marjoram.
Main courses include hanger steak with aubergine purée, roast potatoes and a balsamic honey reduction, octopus with potato purée and Calabrian nduja, and salmon with pea, mint and Jerusalem artichoke. Tiramisu with amaretto, mojito panna cotta, apple cake and chocolate soufflé provide distinctive finishes. The depth of the cellar allows each course to be matched with classic Italian regions or bottles from further afield.
