My Neighbours the Dumplings is an independent Chinese dumpling house at 165 Lower Clapton Road. It began as a weekly pop-up above a grocery shop on the same road before opening its first permanent restaurant in 2016, retaining the sociable neighbourhood character suggested by its name.
The restaurant follows the sharing style of dim sum without limiting itself to strictly traditional recipes. Its specialist team hand rolls dumplings fresh each day, while Cantonese influences appear across small plates that balance nostalgic flavours with more playful combinations.
Prawn har gau, chicken and prawn siu mai, crispy duck and vegetable dishes allow a table to build a varied meal. Higher welfare meat, sustainably sourced fish and British seasonal produce are used where possible, reflecting a careful approach to ingredients as well as technique.
A basement sake bar adds another dimension to the Clapton site, with bottles from small family breweries in Japan. Organic European wines, changing cocktails, mocktails and Chinese tea round out a drinks list designed for a relaxed dinner, a large sharing table or one of the restaurant’s dumpling rolling workshops.
