Blacklock City Menu

Blacklock City occupies an old electricity substation beneath a Grade II listed building on Philpot Lane. The atmospheric basement stands on land associated with London’s first meat market, giving the restaurant a fitting connection to the traditional chophouses that inspire its food. Exposed materials, close set tables and the warmth of the room create a lively retreat from the surrounding streets, only a short walk from Monument and Bank stations.

Chops and steaks form the heart of the menu, using quality grass fed British meat cooked simply over charcoal. Individual cuts allow diners to choose according to appetite, while larger portions and mixed selections are well suited to sharing across the table. The direct cooking lets the natural richness of the meat remain central, supported by familiar sauces and generous side dishes. Seafood and vegetable options provide further choice without distracting from the restaurant’s confident chophouse identity.

Sunday brings one of Blacklock’s most popular traditions, with roasts served alongside crisp potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The generous format works naturally for families, friends and celebrations where the table wants to share a comforting British meal. During the week, the restaurant suits business lunches as readily as relaxed evening dinners, retaining an informal and energetic atmosphere even when the dining room is full.

A separate cocktail bar gives guests space for a drink before or after their meal, while wine on tap and approachable cocktails reinforce the restaurant’s unpretentious style. Service is warm and knowledgeable, helping diners navigate cuts and portion sizes without unnecessary ceremony. Blacklock City brings together the history of the London chophouse, carefully sourced ingredients and generous hospitality in a distinctive subterranean setting.

Address: 13 Philpot Lane, City of London, London EC3M 8AA, United Kingdom
