Brasserie Zédel is a grand Parisian style restaurant hidden below street level near Piccadilly Circus. Guests enter from Sherwood Street and descend into an expansive dining room filled with marble, gilded detail, sweeping columns and authentic art deco character. The interiors formed part of the former Regent Palace Hotel, once among the largest hotels in Europe, and were carefully restored as part of the building’s redevelopment. Their scale creates an immediate sense of theatre while the lively service keeps the experience approachable and democratic.
The kitchen focuses on traditional French brasserie food, presenting familiar dishes with clarity and confidence. French onion soup, pâté, steak tartare, chopped steak with peppercorn sauce, braised meat, seafood and classic desserts all belong naturally in the room. Seasonal additions and changing daily dishes bring variety without moving away from the restaurant’s central identity. The broad selection allows diners to choose a quick and simple meal or assemble several courses that move from charcuterie and shellfish through substantial mains to pastry, ice cream or cheese.
Value is an important part of the Zédel philosophy, echoing the historic Regent Palace Hotel’s ambition to make impressive surroundings accessible to a broad public. Fixed choice menus offer a concise route through the classics, while the à la carte selection supports a more leisurely visit. Vegetarian choices are integrated into the menu, and a thoughtful drinks list covers French wine, champagne, beer and cocktails. The pace can suit a limited lunch break, but the dining room is equally comfortable when guests want to linger over several courses.
Live music adds another layer to the atmosphere, with pianists and house bands bringing energy to evening service. The wider building also contains Bar Américain, the Crazy Coqs cabaret room and the street level ZL Café, allowing dinner to become part of a longer night out. Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street and several West End theatres are close by, making the restaurant especially convenient before or after a performance. Brasserie Zédel combines historic spectacle, straightforward French cooking and bustling hospitality in one of central London’s most memorable dining rooms.
