Tanakatsu is a contemporary Japanese diner on Wakley Street near Angel station. Inspired by the specialist katsu houses of Japan, the restaurant grew from earlier pop ups in Camden Market and Farringdon before establishing its permanent Angel dining room.
Chicken and pork katsu are served as sets, curries or rice bowls, with prawn katsu and pumpkin croquettes providing further variations. Main dishes come with steamed rice, Japanese pickles and a generous cabbage salad dressed with the restaurant’s own recipe.
Teriyaki preparations feature chicken and salmon, while combination plates allow diners to pair grilled dishes with crisp katsu. Sushi, sashimi, gyoza, chicken karaage, tuna tataki and miso soup extend the menu beyond the restaurant’s principal speciality.
Lunch options include bento boxes and katsu sandwiches, while sake, Japanese beer and plum wine complement the food. Tanakatsu accepts reservations and also offers collection and delivery for customers who prefer to eat elsewhere.
