Van Winkle East End is a Kentucky inspired bar and restaurant at 267 Gallowgate in Glasgow. Close to the Barrowland Ballroom, it draws on the area’s music culture while creating the easy atmosphere of an American barbecue joint. Indoor seating and a beer garden make it useful before a gig or for a longer meal in its own right.
Burgers, wings, loaded fries, tacos and barbecue dishes provide the main comfort food choices. Smoke, spice and sticky sauces run through the menu, with sharing plates suited to groups. A traditional Sunday roast adds a British weekend format while retaining the restaurant’s generous approach to sides.
Vegetarian and vegan choices appear alongside the meat led dishes, and a children’s menu covers burgers, chicken, macaroni cheese and fish fingers. Dogs are welcome and even have a dedicated menu developed with veterinary input. Guests with allergies should tell staff because the kitchen does not have a separate allergen free area or dedicated fryers.
Bourbon is the defining drink, supported by Old Fashioned variations, cocktails, beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks. The lively room works particularly well for casual groups and concert crowds. Van Winkle East End combines Glasgow music energy with the bold, informal pleasures of Kentucky style food and drink.
