The Guard House is a pub and restaurant on No 1 Street in Woolwich Arsenal. It occupies the original Grade II listed guard house close to Woolwich station and combines an historic building with a busy terrace and beer garden. Several private rooms also allow the venue to host dinners, parties and weddings.
Seasonal British cooking leads the menu, using fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and dairy delivered throughout the year. Starters such as whitebait, ox cheek croquettes and a pork Scotch egg sit before pub main courses including fish and chips, Cumberland sausage, steak, sea bass and a short rib and brisket burger. Vegetable dishes include a plant burger and ravioli.
On Sundays the kitchen serves roast beef, chicken, pork loin and a vegan Wellington with roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, crushed roots, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. A children’s menu and sharing dishes make the pub workable for families and groups. Guests should tell staff about allergies or intolerances before ordering so the kitchen can explain ingredients and preparation.
Real ale and craft beer share the bar with wine, cocktails, spritzes and an extensive alcohol free selection. Diners can choose a quiet corner inside, eat outside or book one of the event spaces for a larger occasion. The Guard House balances the character of its Royal Arsenal setting with a modern, substantial food and drink offer.
