Strawberry crémeux with almond and fermented elderflower at Galvin La Chapelle

Galvin La Chapelle is a striking French Mediterranean restaurant inside the historic St Botolph’s Hall in Spitalfields. Its soaring stone ceiling, tall arched windows and red brick exterior create one of the most dramatic dining rooms in the City of London. The scale of the Grade II listed building gives every visit a sense of occasion, yet warm lighting and attentive hospitality prevent the room from feeling distant or severe. Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street stations are both nearby, placing this remarkable setting within easy reach of the City and East End.

The kitchen combines classical French technique with the ingredients and flavours of the Mediterranean. Produce is selected from independent growers, trusted fishermen and artisanal suppliers across Britain and Europe, allowing each dish to reflect both the season and its origin. Seafood, carefully aged meat and vegetables are treated with equal seriousness, often supported by precise sauces, subtle smoke and bright accents from citrus, herbs or fermented ingredients. The cooking is refined and detailed, but the central ingredient remains recognisable throughout each carefully composed plate.

Guests can explore the restaurant through an à la carte selection, a longer tasting menu, a concise lunch offering or a dedicated Sunday service. This range allows the experience to suit a business lunch, special dinner or leisurely weekend gathering. Vegetarian and vegan choices receive the same technical attention as the wider menu, while dishes designed for sharing bring a more convivial element to the table. Desserts and farmhouse cheeses complete the progression, balancing modern presentation with the enduring pleasures of a traditional European meal.

Wine service plays an important role, with the sommelier team able to guide guests through individual glasses, complete bottles or pairings across a tasting menu. Private dining areas take advantage of the height and architecture of the hall, including a gallery overlooking the main room and intimate spaces set within its arches. Galvin La Chapelle shares the building with Galvin Bistrot and Bar but retains a distinct entrance and a more formal culinary identity. It brings together historic architecture, modern Mediterranean cooking and polished hospitality in a memorable Spitalfields destination.

Address: 35 Spital Square, Spitalfields, London E1 6DY, United Kingdom
