Gilgamesh Covent Garden is a contemporary Pan Asian restaurant on Upper St Martin’s Lane, inspired by the ancient epic and imagined as an opulent Babylonian palace. Three richly decorated levels combine dining, drinks and late evening entertainment in one theatrical setting. The food follows a journey through Japanese, Chinese and South East Asian flavours, with most dishes designed for communal ordering and sharing.
Small plates include cabbage and mushroom dumplings, prawn and chive dumplings, chicken siu mai and king prawn har gau. Vegetable, sesame prawn and crispy duck spring rolls sit beside tempura, chicken karaage, crisp squid and popcorn shrimp. Wagyu tacos with pineapple salsa and beef tataki with caviar bring more elaborate ingredients to the opening selection.
Sushi ranges from salmon, tuna, yellowtail and sea bream sashimi or nigiri to maki filled with spicy tuna, smoked eel, prawn tempura or soft shell crab. Robata cooking produces asparagus with yuzu miso, chicken meatball skewers, glazed wings, caramelised miso aubergine and lemongrass chicken. Salads with wakame, tuna, prawns or crispy duck add fresh acidity between the grilled and fried dishes.
Signature mains include yuzu glazed chicken, shaking beef, ribeye bulgogi, baked sea bass with basil and tiger prawn with XO sauce. Thai green curry, Malaysian curry and slow cooked beef rendang provide warming coconut and spice driven choices, supported by rice, noodles and Asian greens. A carefully selected wine list and creative cocktails complete a restaurant designed for pre theatre meals, weekend brunch, celebrations and late nights.
