Din Tai Fung Covent Garden is the group’s flagship London restaurant, positioned close to Covent Garden’s West Piazza in the heart of the theatre district. The dining room extends over two spacious levels and combines contemporary design with traditional Chinese details. Handcrafted wood carvings salvaged from older buildings, carved stone lions and art by Singaporean painter Tan Oe Pang give the setting a strong visual identity.
Xiao Long Bao are central to the Din Tai Fung experience. Each delicate wrapper is rolled, filled and finished with exactly 18 folds, reflecting the precise preparation for which the brand is known. Pork Xiao Long Bao sit alongside mushroom versions and other dumplings, allowing guests to explore the contrast between fine wrappers, savoury fillings and the hot broth held inside each parcel.
The selection extends across steamed buns, wontons, vegetable dishes, soups, fried rice and noodles. Prawn and egg fried rice uses Taiwanese Taikeng Number 9 rice, while braised beef noodle soup pairs tender beef with homemade egg noodles and rich broth. Dan Dan noodles, wontons with Sichuan sauce and steamed vegetable dishes bring different levels of warmth, freshness and texture to the table.
Dishes arrive in a format that encourages guests to combine dumplings with rice, noodles, vegetables and small plates. The lower ground floor can accommodate larger groups and private gatherings, while the main dining spaces suit everyday lunches, pre theatre meals and dinners. Careful craftsmanship, an extensive Taiwanese inspired selection and the dramatic Covent Garden interior make this a distinctive central London branch.
